A consortium of aix leading universities in southern Taiwan have formed a relationship with the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering to collaborate in the area of Smart Environments. The agreement also promises opportunities for educational cooperation and student mobility.
Professor Hani Hagras of CSEE at Essex, and Professor Chang-Shing Lee at the National University of Tainan, have for the last year been pursuing a research project under the Top UK-Taiwan Universities Programme, funded by the National Science Council (NSC) of Taiwan. Meanwhile, across the city of Tainan, Dr Michael Gardner, also of CSEE, has established co-operative research with Professor Jar-Ferr Yang, Associate Vice President for Research at the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan’s second-ranked university.
At a conference held at NCKU, Professor Martin Henson, Dean of International Affairs, said “This is a unique opportunity to bring together researchers across Taiwan, linking them with one another and with like-minded scholars in the UK. We are ready to build on our joint expertise in Smart Cities, Intelligent Environments and Digital Lifestyles, and to deepen the intellectual relationship between Taiwan and the UK in these areas.”
The consortium now seeks to organise a conference at Essex in the Spring of 2012, with EPSRC and NSC support.
